Assemblage
Beloved Inedibles
My family and I traveled to France in 2001. The eclectic atmosphere of Paris—and our respect for exceptional French food—inspired a series of mixed-media shrines. In each shrine, an angel presents a food or beverage to express the passion for food as art, with reverence.
The assemblages are constructions of wood, handmade tile, oil painting on canvas, clay, plastic and metal objects, and gold foil from Parisian chocolates. Hot wax encaustic (an ancient Greek technique using melted bees wax) covers the entire shrine, giving a lustrous glazed effect to the surface.
